Saturday opening for ALL departments - Tuesday, January 13, 2009

St Helens Law has now extended its Saturday opening to all of its departments. The Hardshaw St office will now be open from 9.30am until 1pm on Saturdays.

St Helens Law recover damages for man whose hand was damaged in a press machine - Monday, January 05, 2009

The personal injury team at St Helens Law have just settled a claim for a man from the Midlands whose hand was trapped in a Trumpf Press machine. The insurers initially sought to dent liability but after proceedings were issued the solicitors for the insurers settled the claim on a full liability basis. Mr Robert Chilton was able to return to work after surgery and after his case was settled he said "I am extremely glad that I instructed St Helens Law. I wanted to let matters drop at first when the employers denied liability but I left the matter up to my solicitors who did an excellent job. "

The claim was brought under the Provison and Use of Work Regulations 1998 and the Management of Health Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
 

 
St Helens Law seeks inquest for deceased patient - Monday, January 05, 2009

Having resolved a claim for damages on behalf of the Estate of a deceased patient at Whiston Hospital the Clinical Negligence team at St Helens Law are now negotiating with H M Coroner as to whether there now should be a belated inquest into the death. Although no inquest was ordered at the time of the death the Coroner is seeking authority from the Home Office to have an inquest ordered.

Where a body has been cremated a Coroner cannot order an inquest without consent of the Home Office. St Helens Law are confident that the decision will be favourable as the matter is very much in the public interest.

St Helens Law Provides HIPs for £149

First Day Marketing

The temporary provision to allow a property to be marketed provided a HIP has been commissioned prior to the first day of marketing will expire from the 6th April. From this date, the basic HIP must be in place before marketing can begin.

Property Information Questionnaire (PIQ) to be included from 06 April 2009.

This is to be included in the HIP to provide basic, useful information about a property. Details in the PIQ will include information relating to flood risk, gas and electricity safety, service charges, structural damage and parking arrangements.

Leasehold Information

For leasehold properties the new PIQ will include a summary of the leasehold arrangements.

Why is the new legislation being introduced?

The Government’s aim in introducing this legislation is to provide more comprehensive and accurate information for the consumer and to make it available from an earlier date. Any potential buyer will be able to benefit from complete information as early as possible and be fully informed before taking such an important step as buying a new house.
